Building community for LGBTQ+ educators in our brave little state.
TeachOut Mission: The mission of TeachOut is to create a supportive network of LGBTQ+ Vermont educators that is diverse, inclusive, equitable, and sustainable.
TeachOut Vision: The vision of TeachOut is for a state-wide Vermont school system where LGBTQ+ educators are included and supported.
Teachout was established in 2018 as a research project that aimed to identify the needs of LGBTQ+ educators in Vermont. Our research revealed that queer educators feel a sense of isolation in their professional communities in our state. In response to this finding, TeachOut evolved into social network of LGBTQ+ educators in Vermont that aims to build community support to help each other sustain our roles in the profession of teaching.
At TeachOut VT, we believe in elevating and centering the voices and experiences of our diverse LGBTQ+ family: we embrace disabilities, neurodiversity, multilingualism, and racial diversity. We acknowledge and actively work to dismantle the harm of anti-blackness, racism, and colonialism.

We often get the question "Do I count as an educator?" We define "educator" broadly. The answer is probably "yes."
Do you feel a sense of isolation in your professional space? If so, you're not alone. This is a pattern in Vermont and the reason we exist.
Read about our next event on our Instagram or Discord. We try to move around the state and host events outside of Chittenden county.
We are working on envisioning what a mentor/mentee program might look like for LGBTQ+ educators entering the profession. More soon.
Clarification: TeachOut Vermont is an organization for queer educators in Vermont. If you’re looking for the LGBTQ+ education network in Oregon called “UOTeachOut,” they’re doing fantastic things, too! We have a similar name but are not part of the same organization. You can find them here.
